On Friday June 7, 2019, Hansen Academy celebrated its 2019 Ontario Graduates at the George Ignatieff Theatre.

The achievement of the graduating class of 2019 was celebrated by the distinguished faculty and members of staff, guests, friends and family.

Hanson Canada President and CEO Shouyi Ma, Principal Shahin Esmaeiliazad and senior faculty member, Kerry Kotlarchuk, all shared their personal journeys and delivered inspiring messages to the Graduates.

Nervous graduates relaxed as Principal Mordovskaya provided them with encouraging words of wisdom assuring them even failure carries within itself a first attempt in learning. President Shouyi Ma painted the big picture for the students through his speach on the journey of life with all its ups and downs. Mr. Kotlarchuck inspried students with his own experiences with overcoming adversity in high school.

Valedictorian Peiyu Hu delivered a heartwarming speech speaking to the year the graduates shared in together as her proud teachers looked on from the audience. From Halloween to the annual CN Tower climb, they grew up to learn and experience life in Canada together. Her remarks reflected on their dedicated educational journey and encouraged the furture graduates of 2020 to follow in the path of their predecessors.

Like all journeys, this one has also come to an end. Our Hansen Academy graduates are leaving our campus and walking towards their adult life in their respective colleges and universities. We wish them the best of luck with their future careers and anxiously await the day when they return to visit.

Congratulations Class of 2019!

Hansen Academy has established a new pathway with Fanshawe College and Western University. Supporting international students preparing for admission to English-medium undergraduate studies, especially those requiring English training or other preparation for academic studies, the pathway will provide the distinct advantage of allowing for the combined study of academic content with English language studies, study skills, and cultural adaptation courses.

Hansen Academy graduates with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) will now be able to access an established progression to 2 years of academic undergraduate studies at Fanshawe College plus 2 years of academic studies at Western University without the requirement of a language proficiency test.

The new program pathway program availability includes:

We are proud to announce that Hansen Academy is now officially an AP School! The Advanced Placement Program (AP®) allows grade 12 students to earn University Preparation credit courses and at the same time to pursue university-level work in one or more subjects of interest and strength. In partnership with the College Board, Hansen Academy will administer AP® exams in May 2019. AP® exams are developed by the Special Committee which consists of representatives from a wide range of well-known universities. These exams are checked and marked by university professors and experienced AP teachers from different parts of the world by using common scoring standards. Successful completion of the AP® exams with the score 4 out of 5 may result in the opportunity to transfer credits when applying to a university and earn placement into second-year university courses. Welcome to Hansen Academy! Enter to Learn, Leave to Achieve!

If you think you have it tough – read the History Books! Or take a walk through Black Creek Pioneer Village and Fort York!

Last week, Hansen Academy students saw high and low of the city they now call home. During a walking tour, they traveled from union station, to the underground PATH to City Hall, and saw all that makes Toronto an amazing city.

“To the rest of the world it was a Fantasy. To me it was an objective”

— Dr Martin Cooper, creator of the Mobile Phone.

Students from Hansen Academy made the trek to York University last week to experience the famous Canadian School. We received a tour of the campus, including lecture halls, libraries and the all important food courts!

It was a fantastic day!

Go Lions!

What happens when Stephen Curry shows up to play basketball with Hansen Academy? Or when Russel Westbrook suddenly appears to steal the ball and fly down the court for the finish? That is what it felt like when HIA’s math teacher Mr. Singh started raining threes, and Grade 12 student Kevin ignited his team with a spark to win the final game. ‪‎Basketball‬ is a passion for many of our high school students. Check out the video below with some fantastic photos taken by our students:

Off to ‪McMaster‬! Students of ‪#Hansen Academy‬ made the trek to McMaster last week as part of their Physics class, and to get a tour of the campus in case they are interested in attending their post secondary there. They had a tour of the campus, saw a show in the‪ ‎planetarium‬ and finally ended the day with a tour of the ‪#‎nuclear‬reactor. It was awesome! Thanks to McMaster University for showing us around!

Ponds, lakes, Shakespeare, reindeer, High Park has it all. Toronto is a city of parks, and High Park is the city’s largest.

Real learning happens in the real world. With this in mind, Hanson held its High School and ESL classes in High Park on Wednesday, July 22nd, giving students a chance to interact with genuine Canadian wildlife in Toronto’s most incredible park.

Hanson School of Languages students were thrilled to learn new vocabulary on the spot. Xiao Li, one of Hanson’s beginner students, will definitely never forget the words “Bison” and “smelly”. While our advanced High School English class will never forget watching a Shakespeare play in the middle of a forest, and participating in one of Toronto’s best traditions: Shakespeare in High Park.

“We are so lucky to have this experience,” Liam, one of HIA’s High School students, said during the day.

At Hanson, we believe that learning should be just that: an experience.
